Now showing in select theaters across America, CHASING ICE has won over 20 awards at film festivals around the world, including: 2012 Sundance Film Festival, Excellence in Cinematography, Documentary; and Best Documentary, Environmental Media Award, to name a few.
CHASING ICE is the story of one man’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet. In the spring of 2005, National Geographic photographer James Balog headed to the Arctic in pursuit of images to help document and tell the story of Earth’s changing climate.
Within months of that first trip, Balog conceived the boldest expedition of his life: The Extreme Ice Survey. Battling untested technology in subzero conditions, Balog and his team began deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.
Hauntingly beautiful selections from the now million strong EIS (Extreme Ice Survey) photo archive now grace the pages of Balog’s recently published ICE: Portraits of Vanishing Glaciers (Rizzoli) and can also be seen on James Balog’s EIS Photo Portfolio.
