Almost Too Good to Eat

As summer wanes in the northern hemisphere, farmers markets are bursting with the fruits of local farmers’ labor. Brilliant, jewel-colored fruits and vegetables brighten days that are quickly getting shorter.

Port Townsend Farmers Market in Washington State is no exception. At a recent market, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant and a host of other organic produce overflowed the stands, with shoppers taking advantage and stocking up to “put up” the fresh-from-the-farm vegetables.

Jewel-colored peppers filled the booths at the local farmers market, their colors contrasting with the deep purple egglants.

The flowering dill was a popular addition as shoppers gathered produce for pickling.

Egglants are at their prime this time of year.
