tissuesAbout 15 years ago, when I looked around to see how I could be more “ecological” from day to day, I noticed how much garbage I made.  It seemed that I threw away a lot of tissues (to blow my nose and to take off make-up) and paper towels (rags) every day.

Then I remembered my Grandmother’s hankies and decided to do what she did and only use them, instead of tissues, to blow my nose.

To remove make-up, I used an assortment of western kerchiefs, which actually felt much better on my skin. For rags, I started using old t-shirts or clothing that I cut into squares or strips. The hankies, kerchiefs, and shirts can all be washed when they’re dirty.

To this day, I continue to use all three and enjoy giving to hankies and kerchiefs as presents.

Three small steps, but since I take them daily, the tissues and paper towels that I no longer use would have added up to a lot of garbage.
