The Mediterranean Monk seal is one of the most endangered mammals in the world — so much so, that only an estimated six hundred remain in the wild. So, when an injured, 3-day old pup washed ashore in Greece, researchers saw an opportunity not only to help, but to learn more about the habits of the species — and in the process, perhaps preserve the balance of other species in the region.
Now healthy, back in the sea and ready to fend for herself, “Victoria” checks in — like so many human adolescents — via text messaging.
