“Out of the mouths of babes” is an endearing adage about innocence that has taken on a whole new meaning in a New York City art event hosted by the United Nations.

The UN challenged young artists from around the world to express their environmental aspirations, or concerns, about the future of the planet.

The paintings and drawings were produced by over 2 hundred thousand children from every corner of the globe and built into a remarkable body of artistic work that speaks volumes about what we adults are leaving our children as their environmental legacy.

The UN program, Paint for the Planet, was instituted by the UN Environment Programme based in Nairobi, Kenya.

The UNEP will sponsor an exhibit of the best of the paintings at the UN headquarters in New York on October 23.

Five of the child finalists have been invited to New York to share their messages and visions about the environment with major decision makers, corporate leaders and the media.

A selection of the original art works will be auctioned at the Harvard Club to raise emergency funds for children affected by climate change disasters.

After the New York showings the art exhibit will travel to various climate change related events.

The show will eventually end up at the critical environmental planning meeting in Copenhagen which will attempt to resolve the future of the Kyoto environmental control issues.
